Re: Public Information Request — PREA Policies and Jail Operations Procedures

Dear Public Information Officer / Records Custodian: (Please forward to the appropriate person if you aren’t the correct contacts for this request)

Under the Texas Public Information Act (Texas Government Code, Chapter 552), I am requesting copies of the following records from the Colorado County Jail:

  1. The jail’s current Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) policy and procedures
  2. The name and contact information for the facility’s PREA Coordinator or PREA Compliance Manager
  3. All current policies and procedures governing jail operations, including but not limited to:
    • Inmate intake and classification procedures
    • Disciplinary procedures
    • Grievance procedures
    • Medical and mental health services policies
    • Visitation policies
    • Use of force policies

I request that these records be provided in electronic format (PDF) if possible, and sent to ████████████████████████████.

Pursuant to Texas Government Code § 552.221, you are required to respond to this request within ten (10) business days by either:

  • Providing the requested records
  • Requesting an Attorney General opinion if you believe any information is excepted from disclosure
  • Requesting additional time to comply with the request
  • Providing a written statement of the estimated charges for producing the records

If you determine that any requested information is withheld or exempt from disclosure, please:

  1. Cite the specific statute(s) under the Texas Public Information Act or other applicable law that authorizes withholding the information
  2. Provide a detailed written explanation of why each cited exception applies
  3. Release any portions of records that are not exempt (redacting only what is legally protected)

If there will be any cost associated with fulfilling this request, please provide an itemized written estimate within the ten-day response period as required by § 552.261. If charges exceed $40, I request a detailed breakdown of costs before proceeding.
